录取官员知道每个学生在学习和成长的过程中面临的机会是不一样的，那么你是如何利用你能够得到的机会和条件来makea difference的。3. 文书如何来写？有什么样的建议？Personal Statement Prompt 1: Describe the world you come from - for example, yourfamily, community or school - and tell us how your world has shaped your dreamsand aspirations.首先，我们要谨记the personal statement should be personal ，它是录取官员了解你的窗口，比如你的价值观，你的原动力， what drives you to excel ，甚至what gets you out of bed in the morning （闹钟？学习的动力？or…）等等。
所以在回答这个题目的时候要be specific and detailed 。写作时注意以下几点：A. “world”的定义可以很多， it's up to you 。
题目当中 “your family, community or school” 仅仅只是三个例子，不要因此而局限了自己的思维。你的world可以是你的篮球队/足球队/舞蹈队；当地的动物收容所；你家的厨房；某一本书；甚至是你的想象中经常流连的地方。
所以请仔细想想到底是什么构建了你的world?B. Focus on the word “How.” How has your world shaped you？这个题目要求你将你的identity和你的world联系起来，阐述两者之间的关联；要求你展望未来。所以be analytical and introspective;C. 尽量避免老生常谈的话题。
如果说你选择的theworld是你的family或者school ，那很容易就落入俗套，比如你的家人，你的老师是如何的支持你，鼓励你，让你变得更为优秀。这类的题材是绝大部分学生申请时选用的，那么你的文书就很难脱颖而出。
当然也不是说不能选择family或者school 的题材去写，但一定要确保文章当中充分的突出和展现了你自己，而不是你的家人或老师。尽量的个性化。
所以选材很重要，三思而后行；D. Your "world" doesn't have to be a pretty place 。有的时候苦难更能让我们成长，所以如果你的成长环境中充满了挑战、困难、艰辛，尽情地展示出来。
当然，这不是叫你对自己遭遇的苦难经历/环境发牢骚或抱怨，而是展示自己如何从这样的环境中成长， how negative environmental forces have left positive impact on you. What about this quality oraccomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person youare？"题目中提到可以写你的personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution, or experience ，那我认为其实是you have the freedom to write about almost anything. 那么要回答这个问题，首先需要明确重心和topic 。So, what topics work best？我认为选择的标准只有一个：you are passionate about the subject matter. 如果你认为足球，篮球或者游泳对你的成长，成熟产生了重要的影响， then write about it. 如果你的身上发生了什么悲剧让你对人生有了什么新的认识或体会， explore the experience. 录取官员并不会偏好某一个topic ，他们仅仅是希望通过你的文书更充分更好的了解你。
所以这个题目需要你真实的展现自己，展现自己的passion 。写作时注意以下几点：A. Domore than just "tell" 。
虽然这个题目的要求是“tell”us about…. 但是一篇优秀的文书所要做的工作不应仅仅是tell 。It's always better to “show” than to “tell” 。
